Here’s a recipe for hamburger steaks with onion gravy:

Ingredients:

For the hamburger steaks:

– 1 pound ground beef

– 1/4 cup breadcrumbs

– 1/4 cup milk

– 1/4 cup finely chopped onions

– 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

– 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

– Salt and pepper to taste

For the onion gravy:

– 2 large onions, thinly sliced

– 2 tablespoons butter

– 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

– 2 cups beef broth

– 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

– Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, finely chopped onions, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly combined.

  1. Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into oval-shaped patties, about 1/2-inch thick.

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add a drizzle of oil. Cook the hamburger steaks for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are browned and cooked through. Remove the steaks from the skillet and set them aside.

  1. In the same skillet, add the butter and sliced onions. Cook the onions over medium heat until they are caramelized and golden brown, stirring occasionally. This process may take about 15-20 minutes.

  1. Sprinkle the flour over the caramelized onions and stir well to coat them evenly. Cook for another minute to cook off the raw flour taste.

  1. Gradually pour in the beef broth while stirring constantly, making sure there are no lumps. Add the Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.

  1. Bring the gravy to a simmer and cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until it thickens to your desired consistency. If the gravy becomes too thick, you can add a little more broth to thin it out.

  1. Once the gravy is ready, return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, spooning some of the gravy over the top. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat the steaks through.

  1. Serve the hamburger steaks with onion gravy hot, garnished with additional caramelized onions if desired. They pair well with mashed potatoes, rice, or a side of vegetables.
